Terms of use

These terms apply when you use Web Ballot, whether you are a voter, an election commissioner or an administrator. By signing in you agree to them and to our Privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service and tell your election officers.

Web Ballot is software provided by Lync Systems. Each election is run by an organisation of its own (the election organiser), which decides who may vote, who the candidates are, and when results are published.

Lync Systems provides and maintains the platform. It does not run your election or decide its outcome.

• Accounts are created for you by an election officer. You cannot sign up on your own.
• Keep your password, and any authentication code or recovery code, to yourself. Do not share them, even with someone you trust.
• You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell your election officers straight away if you think someone else has used it.
• Give an accurate name and email address, and keep them up to date through your election officers.

• You may only vote in elections you have been added to, and only once in each.
• You must vote for yourself. Voting in another person’s name, or asking someone to vote in yours, is not allowed.
• A vote is final once it is cast. It cannot be changed or taken back, so review your choices before you confirm.
• Your vote is only counted if it is cast while the election is open.
• After voting you receive a receipt code. It proves that a vote was recorded, and when. It does not show who you voted for.

• Try to vote more than once, vote without permission, or work around the rules of an election.
• Try to find out how someone else voted, or pressure or reward anyone for how they vote.
• Probe, attack, overload or interfere with the service, or use scripts or bots to use it.
• Access data or accounts that are not yours, or use the service for anything unlawful.

If you manage an election you must use the access you have only for that purpose. You are responsible for the accuracy of the voter list and candidate information you enter, for telling voters how their personal data is used, and for having the right to run the election and to collect the data you upload.

Results are published by the election organiser. Web Ballot counts the votes recorded in the system; any dispute about an election is for the election organiser to resolve under its own rules.

To keep elections trustworthy, the service keeps an audit trail of sign-ins, the pages people open, actions they take, changes to election data, and where and how votes were cast. Administrators of the election can see this. The Privacy policy explains exactly what is recorded and why.

We work to keep Web Ballot available and correct, but it is provided “as is”. It may be unavailable from time to time, for example for maintenance, and features may change. Please do not leave voting to the last minute.

To the extent the law allows, Lync Systems is not responsible for losses that arise from things outside its reasonable control, such as problems with your device or internet connection, an election organiser’s decisions, or misuse of an account by someone who obtained its details. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.

An election organiser or Lync Systems may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, or that is putting an election or other users at risk. Votes already cast are kept as part of the election record.

The Web Ballot software, design and name belong to Lync Systems and its licensors. You may use the service as described here, but may not copy it or reverse-engineer it. The election data belongs to the election organiser.

We may update these terms, and will change the “last updated” date above when we do. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the new terms.
